How to Install "SQL Server 2005" on Vista or Windows Server 2008

Hi guys,
most of you might have faced the problem of installing SQL Server 2005 on Vista or Windows Server 2008 Operating System.

Luckily I am also one of you. :)

When I started the installation of SQL Server 2005 over Windows Server 2008, there was a prompt saying that this piece of software is incompatible with the current version of operating system.

So now what to do? Solutions are in steps :-
1. Continue the installation and complete it.
2. Now run the SQL Server 2005 SP2 over installed SQL Server 2005.
3. Download and install Microsoft’s Knowledge Base Hotfix KB950636
4. Install the same hotfix KB950636.

After the installation of the hotfix, SQL Server 2005 would be uninstalled, and server would reboot.
Now start the SQL Server 2005 full installation once again.

Now install SQL Server 2005 SP2.

Hence you would get your SQL Server 2005 installed on Vista or Windows Server 2008.
